It was very nice to see Tweetworks mentioned on Mashable again. It is exciting to be part of such a vibrant development community.
In other awesome news, Tweetworks user-created groups have crested the 2,600 mark. You have created 2,009 public groups and 606 private groups. That’s incredible. Group count is my most important metric because when the rest of the Twitter development community gets around to understanding what Biz Stone and I know, that meta data (aka relevancy and context) is needed to bring the conversation web to the masses, we’ll see many of them leveraging the foundation we’ve built through our API.
Speaking of community…
Many of my friends, Aaron Strout of Powered, Jim Storer and Rachel Happe of The Community Roundtable, and Bryan Person of Live World are heavily involved with developing and facilitating community engagment. Recently a few of them have mentioned that I should promote Tweetworks’s inherent community assets as a value proposition. I think they may be on to something.
Featured Groups:
- LotusConnections (created by Praveen Pandey) – If you use Lotus Connections as a social software for you busienss be sure to connect with other users and administrators here. On a side note, John Stack of 3 Big Heads, had the interesting idea of plugging Lotus Connections into Tweetworks. Hmm..
- DevelopingTwitter (created by Kristi Colvin) – The Twitter developer community is growing by leaps and bounds. Barely a day goes by without something new and creative hitting the scene. Kristi herself recently released TwitterFace, a branded Twitter interface tool.
All this talk of community, Twitter and the Tweetworks API got me thinking of Laura Fitton‘s new company OneForty (which launched its Alpha today). Laura is working to make it easier for users to navigate the maze of Twitter powered products while giving developers a showcase for their creations. Be sure to pay OneForty a visit to see what’s cooking. I smell some coolness.

Witness the first Rick Roll on Tweetworks. I’m also offering a signed Tweetworks beak to anyone who can tell me the origin of the Rick Roll? Who started it and why?

Update! Tweetworks crossed the 5,000 user threshold when Mr. Scott Million (aka @millionpa) joined on Wednesday. Congratulations Scott you won yourself a Starbucks Gold Card.

Tweetworks TV Episode 19 – Developers Developers Developers

Developers use forums to connect with others and share knowledge probably more than any other profession online. This seems to make sense, since their faces are in the screen all day and they are the ones who build and designed much of the web. In episode 19 of Tweetworks TV Mike Langford takes you through a sample of the developer groups that users have set up on Tweetworks.
Functioning much like forums, these Tweetworks groups allow developers to log in with their Twitter credentials and tweet it up about the things they’ve learned, the challenges they are having or simply share what they are working on. Heck, you may even find a job in one of these groups.
Featured Groups:
- TweetworksDevelopers (created by Tweetworks) – The Tweetworks API is now available and it is only fitting that we set up a forum for developers who would like to build a Tweetworks powered app.
- AIRdev (created by Tweetworks) – We just happened to notice there wasn’t a place for Adobe AIR developers to connect in the Twitterverse. Well, now there is.
- Drupal-with-DrupalHead (created by @DrupalHead) – This once super active group has gone dormant of late but provides a great example of how vibrant a Tweetworks developer group can be.
- Drupal (created by @UberDev) – Even without @DrupalHead the Drupal conversations continue.
- Joomla (created by @NickInglis) – Do you use Joomla as your opensource content management system (CMS) of choice? Pop in and share what you are up to.
- dotCMS (created by @chris_falzone) – Another CMS platform, the dotCMS group is small but as Yoda would say “size matters not.”
- jQuery (created by @reybango) – Grab a cup of java and slide up to the screen connect with your fellow Java developers in the jQuery group.
- DevelopingTwitter (created by @KrisColvin) – Tweetworks uses the Twitter API as do hundreds of other applications and widgets created by smart and innovative developers. If you are cooking up a Twitter APP drop into this group.
- AllThingsWordPress (created by @FairMinder) – While WordPress might not be the first platform that jumps to mind when I say developers it is one of the most widely used and extendable. This WordPress forum is HUGE and very active.
- WebDevelopers (created by @JonDBishop) – If you look at the menu of developer groups listed above and you think “Yes please” then most likely you do a fair amount of web development. The web developers group is a must have on anyone’s list.
Surely there are groups missing from this list or developer forums that should be created on Tweetworks. If your favorite platform is missing please add a comment here and jump over to Tweetworks and create it.
